Not sure if this qualifies as a SECURITY issue but I'm wondering if you can identify what part of the HOSTS file blocks the partial downloading of web pages. For example my Home page is a Yahoo.ca page. It will download the contents but some of the ads, (not all ads) will be blocked on the page by way of an empty box with a small red x. On other sites, I'll also get the web page downloading the contents with some ads having the same empty box with a red x, but also others with the blue "i" icon stating the page could not be downloaded etc etc (even though the page is downloaded but it's the ads that are not ). If I disable HOSTS file, the full page is downloaded properly.

Hover over the missing picture and look at the status bar. On some it will give the details there and then you can look for it in the HOSTS file. To disable a single item place a # symbol followed by a space at the beginning of the line. That is usually better than totally removing the line. Remember though, Mike Burgess writes that HOSTS file and he is very fussy about having a good reason before he includes it. I have sent several to him for inclusion and he has only accepted one so far.

Hi Dan, I've been using a HOSTS file for quite some time now, but have recently taken to using George's HOSTS file Mgr. It will check for any updated HOSTS file available (MVP Mike Burgess version), allows you to toggle HOSTS file blocking om/off, and a variety of other things--check it out at: mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/Software.htmI like the way pages load faster w/o all those darn ads. Hi Dan, Oops! I just noticed in a different thread you already have HOSTS Tile Mgr. I better read more and "keyboard " less. Curt

Thanks for the tip, Dundat, re: hovering the cursor over the blank ad. I'll experiment to see if there is a pattern . I certainly would not want to mess with the integrity of the program, so it'll be "hands off" of any change.
I downloaded the Hosts Manager this past weekend, Curt, and am most impressed with it. This program was made for guys like me. I can "disable", "enable", "update", etc., etc. with the click of a mouse and not mess anything else up !!!! As I said, very impressive. Regards,
Dan
