I tried to install Norton Ghost onto my C drive, but received the following dialog box -- The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation . I have had no problems installing other programs. I was trying to install Ghost V2002 which I had purchased a couple of years ago. I had installed it at that time without any problems. I subsequently removed it from my HD during the various HD changes since that time. How do I reset whatever settings so that I assume administrative rights? I am the sole builder/owner/user of this computer. Can someone offer some suggestions to a poor old lost soul?

Hi windycitybrdmn, thank you for your input and the welcome. I have just corrected my problem and successfully installed the Ghost program. Resolution: Finally managed to log on with administrator rights. which apparantly appeased the System Administrator so that he dropped out of the picture.

Glad to hear all is well. Now I have to ask: If it's a standalone machine why did you have to log in with Admin rights? Is this on XP and you use a password to login to Windows? I use Ghost 2003 and didn't have any problem installing it on any of my 98SE boxes or the XP Pro and Xp Home.

Hi, WindyCityBrdmn I'm sorry, I should have included a resume of my OS stats in my original post. Win98SE, Asus Athlon 700mhs, Ram 512mbs stand alone machine. I am the sole builder/owner/user of this computer. System Administrator would not allow me to install my Ghost program becausa I was not signed on as a user, (I think). Anyhow after resetting my logon and signing on a user, the problem was resolved. I installed a few programs without any interferance from the System Administrator, why the problem with Ghost?

Did you have a look at the linked article I provided? if that doesn't at least partially explain it, the only reason I would think for know is User Profiles which I suspect you don't have, which then makes it moot. Perhaps Symantec has other articles that may suggest other causes.
